Typical life in March 2016

If you were to watch our family life on a time elapse video...you would notice several things that are a daily recurrence.  Things like this:

  • The minute they wake up...Grant/Grace/Lucy will knock on my bedroom door no matter how early it is and express their dire need for food.
  • Grace smothers Rosie with kisses every time she sees her.
  • Jack practices his cello before school...even if he only has 15 minutes till the tardy bell rings...he hates to save it for after school.
  • Marian is awesome at unloading the dishwasher...usually without being asked
  • Grant likes to have his bed make a certain way.
  • No one likes getting their hair brushed...but Jack likes to get his hair gelled.
  • When I pack home lunches...Jack and Marian unpack them out of their lunch totes to see what they are getting before putting them in their backpacks
  • Some kids like milk in their cereal.  Some kids don't.  I can never keep it straight.
  • Everyone is thrilled when we have pancakes for breakfast...as long as they are "daddy pancakces" which is code for "not mom pancakes that have wheat flour in them"
  • After dinner clean-up (if we get that far) our house turns into a dance party which includes lots of round-off back handsprings from Marian, a lot of sliding on the wood floor from Lucy, major crashes from Grant, jumps off the couch from a very proud looking Grace, and  groove shakin, sister twirling moves from Jack.  Chad and I usually watch from the stairs but occasionally work it on the dance floor as well.
  • Marian can never find her shoes.
  • when a child says "I brushed my teeth" it isn't true until you threaten to smell their breath.  Then they go brush their teeth.
  • Jack has me sign his homework folder every morning
  • Marian is supposed to have me sign her homework but apparently has been signing my initials for me for months!!!
  • Lucy does "baggie books" every day for school and special reading lessons with dad on Saturdays...it's the sweetest.
  • Rosie gets overly excited (read: wets all over the floor) whenever someone comes to the door.  Consequently every time the door bell rings we have to get Rosie outside or under control before we can answer it.  Awesome.  She seems to be getting a little better but I am skeptical that she will outgrow this.
  • Other than the fact above....Rosie is the sweetest dog and we all love her.  But no one loves her more than Chad.  She loves him the most too!
  • Grant always says "hold you for a minute?" meaning hold ME for a minute before I put him to bed.  It's the sweetest.
  • Jack and Marian are obsessed with Harry Potter books.  Jack has read them all twice and Marian would probably have done the same by now but I told her she has to wait to read the 5th book until she reads all the Little House on the Prairie books.
There are a million more things I could right.  But that gives you a little idea of life at the moment.
