Chad – rushed the field with the kids after BYU beat Utah for the first time in 12 years. Everything else has been inconsequential. Getting a Traeger might be the one possible exception. He continues to enjoy studying Spanish, mountain biking and skiing (please oh please oh please let it snow).
Mary - tried to live it up during her last year in her 30’s. She rode with the middle school mountain bike team, got a job teaching music at the elementary school, and let her sister convince her to be in a tap dance number in their alma mater’s high school musical. That’s right, even though she had zero tap dancing experience, she tap danced on stage, in front of real people. It was a riot and a once in a lifetime experience, so we’re sorry you missed it.
Jack (16) – is REALLY good at being 16. He
aced his driver’s license test, constantly blasts 60’s and 70’s rock throughout
the house (think Queen and the Beetles), and got a job at Jamba Juice, which
due to the 50% family discount, we will never let him quit. He had a great year on the high school
mountain bike team, plays cello and piano, and looks forward to skiing every
chance he can get. He recently informed
us that when he grows up, he wants to own an Aston Martin. Sounds good.
Marian (14) – rode with the middle school
mountain bike team, had a great soccer season, joined a rock-climbing club and
is a much sought-after baby-sitter in the neighborhood. She objected to all the
other braggy things I wanted to write about her, so just take my word for it,
she’s pretty awesome.
Lucy (11)- started middle school and guitar
lessons (watch out T-Swift). She entertains us all with her epic lip-sync dance
routines in the kitchen that are perfectly timed to get her out of dinner
chores. Lucy drank the “cougar-ade” and has become a diehard BYU fan. Along
with Grace, she has composed several songs on their ukuleles about BYU football.
Chad has consequently updated his will in their favor.
Grant (9+1 minute)- has either a book or a
light saber in his hand at all times. Sometimes both. He devoured the Percy
Jackson book series this year and consequently took a deep DEEP dive into Greek
and Roman mythology. If you have questions about mythology and a solid 30-40
minutes, just ask Grant and he will be happy to help. Discourses on World War
II and Star Wars conspiracy theories are also available.
Grace (9)- is a diligent piano practicer,
determined soccer player, and a rabid devout BYU sports fan. Although
Chad has been tutoring Mary on the ins and outs of college football for 18
years, Grace has already proven to be a much better pupil and has a
firmer grasp on the rules, the plays and ALL of the players than Mary
ever could.
Rosie (49 in dog years) – loves peanut butter, chasing balls, Chad, and conducting daily perimeter checks in the backyard 9-10 times per day.
We are especially grateful at this time of year for loving friends and family and the blessings of our Heavenly Father. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
