Real Food

So a few months ago saw this blog called  100 days of Real Food (check it out). My friend Rachel had tried the 10 day real food challenge and I was super intrigued.  I feel like we eat pretty healthy around here (minus the excessive amount of cookie, brownie, and now home made ice-cream making, that goes on around here.)  When Chad showed up at our hotel in Maine with Juice Boxes and Little Debbie "cupcake-like" things from the grocery store I felt proud of my righteous indignation.  The kids of course thought Chad was the most amazing dad ever for producing food; the likes of which they had rarely seen.
"thank you daddy thank you daddy"!!!
Other than that I think we are pretty good.  But as I've been reading the 100 days of real food blog I've also been looking more closely at ingredient labels and our family's eating habits.  I don't know that I would make a very successful health nut but I am going to give the 10 challenge a try...the first ten days in August I need to baby-step my way up there. In preparation I'm trying out some new recipes.  I've tried two of the recipes on the Real Food blog. (you'll notice that they are both breakfast/treat items... of course!)

The Breakfast cookies tasted a little too much like plain whole wheat bread or completely plain oatmeal.  I desperately wanted to add chocolate chips but I stayed strong.  Maybe pumpkin and some cinnamon would liven them up a little.

The Whole Wheat Crepes were better.  Better than regular crepes?  Of course not.  But they were still delicious and with a little Nutella on them my kids didn't even notice the change.  I tried them with poached apples (with vanilla and cinnamon added) and that was awesome.  Plus I was full after only 3 crepes rather than my usual 4 or 5...or maybe 8

So anyone want to take the 10-day challenge with me?  You can read the rules HERE.  In the meantime I would LOVE to hear about any good "real food" recipes that you have.
