I don't know how this is possible but...
Jack started 1st grade this week
I couldn't sleep well the night before. I kept thinking, "Jack doesn't know anybody! He doesn't even realize that he doesn't know anybody. What if he gets there and it becomes painfully obvious to him that he doesn't know a soul in 1st grade?" Then at about 6 am I starting worrying about his new school shoes. They are tie shoes and I still hadn't taught him how to tie his shoes! What if his shoes come undone and he can't tie them himself? What if the other kids tease him?
I shouldn't have worried. Jack came into my room at 7 o'clock, dressed, excited and new school shoes in hand. "Mom, mom, can you show me how to tie my shoes?"
We spent the next 40 minutes in my bed talking about bunny ears, trees, criss/crosses and all that jazz. In the end Jack happily jumped out off my bed with his newly tied shoes (and I prayed they would stay tied through the day).
This really captures how excited Jack was for school. Clearly I was alone in my worry.
Lucy roamed the house all morning saying, "Where Jackie? Where Jackie? Jackie at school." She LOVES her brother.
Both girls LOVE their big brother.
Knowing Jack I shouldn't have worried one bit! He is Mr. Confidence and a social creature. He came home after school all grins and giddiness. He was so excited to tell me every detail about the day that he wouldn't even touch his milk and cookies (thank you Anne) until he had given me the play by play. His shoes stayed tied, by the end of 1st recess he had a new friend "Stetchen???" (later to be identified as Stetson), he opened the milk cartons for all the kids at his lunch table, his teacher has long and pretty earrings , and the class rules..."I can't remember what they are but they are the same as my old school...oh yeah mom no bowling in the bathrooms" (later to be clarified to mean no "bullying" in the bathrooms).
Basically Jack loves school! Here's to a great year.
