It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

We pulled off another delayed timer photo miracle and even got our Christmas cards earlier than usual this year.

Did I know Rosie was in the car with us when we drove to my mom's house to take the photo in her backyard?

Yes.

Did I know Chad was planning on putting her in the family photo?

 No.

Was I surprised? No, not really.

Chad (30 something… but just barely) - claimed to love working from home when the pandemic hit but the minute the option to return the office was available, he was gone.  Apparently, the kids’ mid-day dance parties and indoor hoverboard derbies were distracting.  He continues to love skiing, mountain biking and BYU sports watching.  New this year is his study of Spanish and now “el habla mucho espanol”

Mary (a solid 30 something) – realized all her past claims of “I would love to homeschool my children someday” were in fact false false false and although she loves her children deeply she is grateful every day that school isn’t canceled.  2020 has confirmed her suspicions that she is in fact a homebody and has loved spending quarantine baking and doing puzzles.  In 2021 she hopes to rectify the physical damage caused by the former but continue indulging in the latter.

Jack (15)- aced the written drivers test and now acts as Mary’s personal chauffer.  He is an excellent driver and was very nice about the fact that his mother was constantly “braced for impact” the first 20 times or so he got behind the wheel.  He is rocking the transition from a small charter middle school to a ginormous high school and enjoys skiing, playing in the orchestra, taking AP classes and being on the mountain bike team.  Go Chargers!

Marian (13)– unfairly skipped the awkward teenage phase and went straight to stunning, so we had braces put on right away.  Covid put a damper on her summer cookie business but she filled her time making 4 quilts, 2 pinatas, and countless culinary delights.  Her soccer team had another dominating season and school is “fine” according to the straight-A Marian. She continues to bring happy vibes into our home with her singing and ukulele playing and we think that is just “fine” too.

Lucy (10)- is the designated house DJ and master of the Alexa.  She rocked it on the soccer field this year.  She plays with her whole heart and her solid right foot.  She’s developed a keen fashion sense, is friends with everyone and has the most social engagements by far out of anyone in the family.   She loves reading, quilting, skiing, playing the ukulele and taking art classes.

Grant (8+1 minute) – wins the prize for being the first child to successfully sweet talk mom into getting a hamster.  “Buddy” hasn’t been with us long, but so far he just hides in his hamster house and smells funny.  Yay!  Grant loved fall cross country, merely tolerated soccer and fell in love with tennis…or at least his darling 15-year-old tennis teacher.  He loves Star Wars, Dog Man books, Nutella, BYU football and perhaps an excessive amount of YouTube videos.  Anyone else love Dude Perfect and theOdd1sout as much as Grant? Anyone? Anyone?

Grace (8)- replaced her Red Sox cap with her bike helmet and LOVES to ride her bike anywhere and everywhere…preferably off curbs and trail jumps.  She just got a long wished for skateboard for her birthday and is either riding it, sitting on it, laying on it, or holding it All. Day. Long.  Grace is fiercely competitive and ran, scored, and swung her heart out in a myriad of fall sports. Along with Chad and Grant, she was thrilled with BYU football’s almost undefeated season.  She is an avid reader and writes and illustrates her own cartoons.  Thanks to 2020, her political series was particularly poignant this year.

Sending you love and wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year!
