I was missing my Grandma Marian. So while I was in Orem dropping off Jack's last MTC package last Monday I stopped at Crandall's fruit farm to buy some peaches. Just seeing the "Crandall's fruit farm" logo on the boxes reminded me of Grandma Marian. I bought more peaches than I needed...happy problem and took them home. They sat on my counter for several days while we all ate them 1 or 2 (or 3) at a time till I finally hunkered down and made peach syrup (you are welcome Marian) and canned 6...that's right 6 whole jars of peaches. We really must have eaten a lot during the week.
To be fair I did give several away to my cousin Emily.
The whole idea behind canning is to have summery fresh fruit in the middle of the winter right? Well, if these 6 precious jars are uneaten before Halloween I'll be shocked.
Still, it was well worth the effort. Grandma Marian taught me how to can peaches years ago and doing that simple (but not super simple) task helped me feel close to her.
That right there is the beauty of tradition.
